If you’ve ever met Rohit Agarwal, the photographer behind Stills by Rohit, you’ll instantly notice his positive attitude and calm energy — and animals seem to sense it too.

By creating timeless portraits — and memories that last a lifetime, he’s turned photography into a way to celebrate the bond between pets and their humans. His sessions — whether outdoors, at home, or in the studio — are built around trust, patience, and respect for the animal’s comfort.

For Rohit, every click tells a story. From the playful chaos of a puppy to the soulful gaze of an older companion, he captures those fleeting moments that often slip by unnoticed — the ones that, years later, mean everything.

🎄 And this season, he’s sharing that magic with our readers by offering a free Christmas Mini Photoshoot (value €150) as part of a special holiday giveaway! Details on how to join can be found at the end of the interview.

Keep reading to discover Rohit’s journey, what makes pet photography so unique, and the heartfelt stories behind his most memorable sessions.

He's exactly the kind of professional you’ll discover and support through Pet Pro Booking.

About Your Work

  1. What inspired you to work with animals?

I’ve always been drawn to photography because it allows me to capture the same world in a completely different way — through my own lens and vision. Combining that passion with my lifelong love for animals was a natural step that felt deeply fulfilling.

  2. How long have you been practicing, and what do you love most about your work?

I’ve been photographing pets for about 8 years now. What I love most is their spontaneity and uniqueness — no two sessions are ever alike. Every pet brings their own personality, which makes me feel as excited as I did during my very first shoot.

  3. What makes Stills by Rohit special?

At Stills By Rohit, the comfort and well-being of the pet always come first. I never stress or rush them for the perfect picture. We work with the pets — at their pace and in their comfort zone. It sometimes takes patience, but that’s what brings out their most natural expressions and genuine moments.

  4. Which types of pets or sessions are closest to your heart?

Puppy and senior pet photoshoots are closest to my heart. Puppies bring unmatched energy and cuteness, while senior pets bring emotional depth — often reminding families of the beautiful years they’ve shared.

  5. How do you help pet (and owners!) feel relaxed and confident during your sessions?

Preparation and understanding are key. I take time to learn about the pet’s personality and the family’s preferences before the shoot. This planning helps everyone feel more relaxed and confident on the day.

Tips For Pet Owners

  1. What’s one thing you wish more pet owners knew about professional pet photography?

That it’s not just about owning a good camera — it’s about having the right vision and empathy to bring out a pet’s true personality. Pet photography involves planning, creativity, and a deep understanding of animal behavior. And this is what differentiates a pet photographer from a family photographer

  2. What are the most common mistakes pet owners make with their pets, concerning pet photography?

A few common mistakes include not exercising or walking the pet before the shoot, or getting impatient when the pet doesn’t instantly cooperate. Staying calm and positive always helps create the best results.

  3. What tips would you give pet owners to best prepare for a photo session?

Stay calm, be patient, and enjoy the experience. Your pet senses your energy — the more relaxed and happy you are, the more natural and joyful the photos will turn out.

  4. What would you say to someone looking for a pet photographer for the first time?

Choose someone who genuinely connects with animals, not just the camera. Look for a photographer who prioritizes your pet’s comfort, understands body language, and focuses on creating authentic, emotion-filled portraits — not just posed shots.

About You

  1. Do you have pets? Tell us about them!

Yes! I have a four-year-old rescued dog named Fuji. We found her on the streets in India, and she’s been part of our family ever since. She’s beautiful, full of attitude, and constantly keeps life interesting!

  2. Can you share a moment that reminded you why you love your job?

I once got a call from an elderly lady whose dog had recently passed away. She thanked me because the pictures I had taken were the only decent photos she had of her beloved companion. That call reminded me of the emotional value behind my work — it’s not just photography; it’s preserving memories that last a lifetime.

  3. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working with animals?

I love going on walks with Fuji, traveling with my pack, and experimenting in the kitchen. Cooking is therapeutic for me — it’s another creative outlet.

  4. What’s something most people don’t know about being a Pet Photographer?

That it’s a mix of patience, empathy, and quick reflexes. You can’t pose pets like models — you have to earn their trust and be ready for those fleeting moments that make the perfect shot. Behind every great photo is a lot of waiting, observing, and connecting.

  5. If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing instead?

I’d definitely be a chef! I love experimenting with flavors and creating something that brings people joy — just like photography does.
